Reflexology is a gentle and deeply relaxing treatment to receive.
The first session will take slightly longer than an hour so we can go through a full medical history to identify any current areas for concern and to discuss your needs. Please note that all information will be kept confidential. After a warm foot soak you will relax on a comfortable reclining reflexology chair and be covered with a blanket. You will only need to remove your socks and shoes.
After the treatment you will be given water and I will then talk through the treatment and offer any aftercare advice if needed.
What do I wear for the treatment?
It is recommended that you wear comfortable clothing and trousers that can be rolled up slightly as the treatment will include some massage of the lower leg. You are only required to remove your socks and shoes.
What will the treatment feel like?
The treatment should feel relaxing and not painful. Don’t worry if you have tickly feet as the pressure applied is firm yet gentle. If you feel any discomfort this may suggest an imbalance within the body and this will be addressed.
How many sessions will I need?
Reflexology is a very individual therapy and the number of sessions depends entirely on your needs and reason for treatment.
The more reflexology you have the better the outcome. I would recommend for those with a specific need to have treatments close together and regularly. Other clients may wish to come monthly to assist with stress relief and general wellbeing.
How will I feel following the treatment?
Most people feel a sense of relaxation and wellbeing, some feel energised and rebalanced. On rare occasions reflexology can produce more extreme reactions such as a worsening of existing symptoms. These are perfectly normal and a positive sign that the body has started to rebalance and release toxins. These reactions are only temporary and they should disappear within 24 hours. They are usually followed by an improvement in any existing ailments you may have.
How can I make the most of my reflexology treatment?
To maximise the potential benefits from the treatment, in the 12 hours following treatment it is advised to:
Drink plenty of water – this helps to hydrate the body and flush out toxins
Avoid caffeine and alcohol to prevent dehydration and the introduction of more toxins
Rest if you can following the treatment as this will allow the body to heal
Avoid energetic exercise for at least six hours
Eat a light meal
